DraftKings shares fell sharply over the past month, dropping nearly twenty two percent. Gaming stocks linked to online betting and iGaming are facing heavy selling pressure across the market. Investors are particularly worried about rising costs related to prediction markets.
Handle trends show growth
Company executives shared positive updates regarding wagering trends at a recent gaming convention. Sports betting handle increased fifteen percent in September compared to the previous year. Turnover on the company exchange platform also grew significantly over recent months.
Prediction market investments
Chief Executive Officer Jason Robins stated the company could increase spending to attract prediction market customers. Analysts estimate that total investments in event contracts could reach between four hundred fifty and five hundred million dollars. This heavy spending might impact earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization in upcoming quarters.
Legal uncertainty remains
The Supreme Court is expected to review sports event contracts soon. Operators are ramping up investments now to build customer databases just in case the legal status changes. Company management believes this strategy protects their future position regardless of the upcoming court ruling.
Bettors might see better promotional offers and platforms as DraftKings spends heavily to capture market share.
