Fdj united faces higher tax bills and falling revenue across european markets

Higher taxes and sliding sales in the uk and the netherlands hit the betting giant hard.

French betting giant Fdj United has reported a tough nine months with falling overall revenue and gross gaming revenue across the board. The group pointed to heavy regulatory headwinds in Britain and the Netherlands as major drags on performance. Without those two troubled markets, gross gaming revenue would have climbed during the period.

Tax burdens grow

Heavier government levies have added millions to the company financial obligations so far this year. Online betting faces steep tax rates of nearly sixty percent in France, alongside significant charges in the Netherlands and the UK. These rising costs have pushed the total tax bill significantly higher for the operator.

Unibet and other key brands acquired through the Kindred purchase are central to operations in the affected regions. Management has put specific action plans in place to stabilize performance in both places. However, retail lottery and traditional sports betting numbers at home in France also showed noticeable declines.

Recovery plans

Bosses have laid out a four pillar strategy to turn around sliding fortunes and improve online returns. The plan involves refreshing lottery products and building a single proprietary sportsbook platform for most regions. A new digital leadership team is now driving these changes forward to boost efficiency.

The company remains fully committed to its long term goals despite a difficult trading environment for the wider sector. Executives hope innovation and a stronger product portfolio will restore steady growth momentum soon.

What it means for a bet

Punters might see changes to sportsbook platforms and promotional offers as the company revamps its technology.
