New research from the American Gaming Association reveals that prediction market users overestimate their mathematical abilities. Traders in these markets think they are great at math, but tests show they perform like people who do not gamble at all.
Sports bettors show better math skills
Sports bettors display the highest level of mathematical confidence and actual ability. While prediction market traders feel just as confident about their math skills, their test results tell a different story. They score much lower than traditional sports bettors and land closer to the results of non gamblers.
Gamblers show higher financial literacy
The study also looks at financial literacy and finds that gamblers score higher on financial tests than non gamblers. A large percentage of gamblers qualify as highly financially literate, compared to a smaller group of people who do not place wagers.
Financial literacy supports responsible betting
The research points to a clear link between financial literacy and responsible wagering habits. People with higher financial literacy scores tend to practice safer gambling because they understand financial risk much better than others.
Always test your actual math skills before placing complex bets.
