Rules and licensingGoogle blocks betting ads in Croatia ahead of new rules
Google will stop allowing gambling advertisements and affiliate promotions targeting audiences in Croatia.

Google announced a major update to its local advertising policies for the region. The tech giant will completely ban all promotions related to online betting. Existing certifications for gambling advertisers will be revoked, and no new applications will be accepted.
Hitting affiliates and media
The enforcement action targets websites and media portals that use paid promotions to drive traffic to betting sites. Affiliate marketing relies heavily on search engine traffic to acquire new users. Losing this channel will force operators and partners to rethink their acquisition strategies entirely.
Strict government rules
Croatia already introduced extensive restrictions on betting advertising through its government policies. Traditional media channels, public spaces, and social media influencers face strict bans on promoting gambling activities. Brands can no longer display bonuses or free spins outside of their own official websites.
Grey areas remain
Local outlets questioned enforcement consistency after the national football federation partnered with an unregulated prediction market. Prominent sports stars previously featured in campaigns, raising further questions about how authorities apply the rules. Regulators face mounting pressure to clarify grey areas in the local market.
Punters in Croatia will see far fewer promotional messages online as major tech and government restrictions take full effect.
