Football is proving to be the most wagered on sport in the United States. Just two games were enough to drive a massive wave of prediction market activity. Financial analysts estimate that contract volumes reached forty two million dollars on the DraftKings exchange.
Early volume breaks records
The opening game between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks generated massive numbers. It ranked as the tenth highest volume day on record for prediction markets. Analysts believe the first full Sunday of games could set brand new industry volume records.
Big revenue from exchange fees
DraftKings launched its exchange platform in June. Financial experts estimate the platform generated one hundred six thousand dollars in market maker fees across the first two games. This points to a potential revenue opportunity of fifty seven million dollars over the course of the season.
Growth across other platforms
Crypto and other prediction market operators also saw strong numbers during the opening fixtures. Crypto generated sixteenth million and thirty five million dollars across the first two matches. Robinhood also plans to route football event contract volume through Crypto in the near future.
Steady income for bookmakers
Exchange fees represent a reliable and recurring revenue opportunity for operators. Market making activities remain much more variable because they depend on spreads and event outcomes. Even small progress on these exchanges could yield major financial benefits for the companies involved.
Punters are driving record prediction market volumes, opening up huge new revenue streams for major betting platforms.
