The Malta Gaming Authority concluded a consultation period regarding changes to its recognition notice framework. This system allows companies with licenses from other regions to operate within Malta. Regulators initially wanted much stricter checks following a recent national risk assessment. Industry members shared their concerns about the heavy burden of the original proposals.
Changes to requirements
Regulators removed several strict demands after reviewing the stakeholder feedback. Companies no longer need to provide full corporate structure charts or lengthy legal opinion templates. The final rules focus on ultimate beneficial owners and material licensing matters instead of exhaustive historical records.
B2B suppliers will receive exemptions from many of the obligations that still apply to B2C operators. Financial data collection will use predefined bands and payment categories rather than exact figures. The Malta Gaming Authority confirmed that some parts of the new framework require formal rule changes.
Next steps for operators
Data collection under the updated regime begins this year and covers the previous reporting period. The regulator will not force all existing holders to submit new details simultaneously. Officials plan to release more specific guidance as the rollout continues for affected operators.
These regulatory adjustments mean licensed operators face a more practical compliance process without major disruptions to their services.
