Prediction platform Kalshi has secured a massive forty billion dollar valuation following a one billion dollar funding round. Wellington Management and Sequoia Capital co led the investment, showing strong institutional backing for prediction markets despite the risks. Big asset managers joined the round just days after Kalshi announced a partnership with S&P Dow Jones.
Legal battles in the US
State regulators are pushing back hard against the platform and its sports event contracts. Utah recently filed thirteen criminal charges against the company and its co founders. Arizona took similar action in March when its attorney general filed misdemeanour charges over the continued offering of event contracts.
International expansion plans
Kalshi is also talking with European regulators like ESMA while trying to shape positive legislation abroad. At the same time, IG Group is applying for a gambling commission licence in the UK. That group plans to launch a product for professional investors later this year and a full sportsbook in early twenty twenty seven.
Market risks and doubts
Industry analysts point out that sports made up around ninety percent of Kalshi volume in twenty twenty five. A looming Supreme Court ruling could change the entire market very quickly. Some commentators suggest that a planned twenty twenty seven initial public offering might be overly optimistic given the ongoing legal troubles.
Bettors should monitor regulatory crackdowns because legal battles could suddenly freeze funds or shut down event contracts.
