Brazil has officially signed the Macolin Convention at the headquarters of the Council of Europe in France. The international treaty aims to prevent and combat fraud in sports competitions. The Brazilian ambassador to France signed the document on behalf of the government with support from multiple ministries.
Better global cooperation
The treaty establishes mechanisms for cooperation between public authorities, sports organizations, and betting operators. This framework helps identify and stop practices that compromise the fairness of results and ruin trust in sport. Giovanni Rocco noted that the move expands international cooperation and protects athletes, clubs, and fans.
Local policy steps
The Ministry of Sport monitored negotiations and provided technical support for the accession process. Brazil previously created a national policy for the prevention and confrontation of the manipulation of sports results. This domestic policy established guidelines for regulation, monitoring, inspection, and the repression of sports fraud.
Reaching across borders
Opened for signature in Switzerland, the treaty establishes global guidelines to combat the manipulation of sports competitions. Brazil is the first country in the Americas to sign the convention. The agreement provides for the exchange of information between countries and the monitoring of suspicious betting movements.
Cleaner markets and stronger oversight mean safer betting conditions for punters placing wagers on Brazilian sports.
