Sports prediction market Novig just completed a major financing round that values the growing company at two billion dollars. This huge jump in value comes less than eight months after a previous funding round valued the business at five hundred million dollars. Investors rushed to back the peer to peer exchange following regulatory approval.
Regulatory approval drives growth
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission granted Novig official status in June to operate a regulated prediction market. This crucial approval allowed the sports betting exchange to launch in nearly all states across the country. The platform currently operates in forty seven states, missing only Arizona, Michigan and Nevada.
Sydney Sweeney secures equity stake
Actress Sydney Sweeney starred in a recent controversial advertising campaign for the betting brand. Instead of taking standard cash payment for her work, she chose to receive company equity. With the valuation now sitting at two billion dollars, her early stake is worth a massive amount of money.
Massive volume on the platform
Novig now counts more than two hundred and fifty thousand active traders using the platform. Those users have driven over six billion dollars in betting volume through the exchange. The sports focused model continues to attract sharp bettors looking for better odds than traditional sportsbooks.
Future plans for the exchange
Even with a two billion dollar price tag, the company remains smaller than the biggest giants in the prediction market sector. The operators have not announced any official plans for an initial public offering yet. Leadership prefers to focus on growing the user base across legal states.
Bettors should watch prediction markets closely as heavily backed peer to peer exchanges continue to expand across legal states.
