Betsson reached record revenue in the third quarter of the year. The figure grew by ten percent to reach three hundred and twenty six million euros.
Football drives customer numbers
Active customers rose by forty percent to nearly two million people. The business benefited from the final stages of the World Cup and the return of domestic football leagues.
CEO Pontus Lindwall noted that customer deposits and total gaming turnover increased significantly during this busy sporting period.
Casino saves the sportsbook
Sportsbook revenue remained mostly flat despite the major football events taking place. The sportsbook margin after free bets dropped slightly to eight point one percent.
Casino products drove the actual growth for the business. Casino revenue grew by nearly fourteen percent and generated the majority of total group earnings.
Rising costs impact profits
Operating profit dropped because of higher betting duties and increased marketing expenses. Local regulatory costs also rose as more revenue came from regulated markets.
Latin America emerged as the top region for growth with revenue surging by over fifty percent. Argentina, Peru and Colombia performed especially well for the bookmaker.
Punters are flocking to sportsbooks during major tournaments, but casino products remain the real cash cow for operators facing rising local taxes.
