VGW settles with New York attorney general for eight million dollars

VGW Holdings Pty Ltd has reached an agreement with New York Attorney General Letitia James to pay 8 million dollars. The settlement covers the parent company alongside its major brands including Chumba Casino, Global Poker, and Lucky Land Casino. Under the deal, former sweep coin customers in the state are entitled to a one time redemption. VGW neither admits nor denies the findings made by the state attorney general office.

Details of payout and redemptions

The company must pay the 8 million dollars within 14 days of the agreement becoming effective on August 301, 2026. Eligible former players can submit a redemption request up until August 31, 2027. The agreement outlines specific steps that former users must follow to claim their money back. The wagering requirement for these redemption claims was not stated.

New rules for New York players

VGW has agreed to stop allowing New York residents to stake any redeemable virtual item on chance based contests or future events. This restriction also applies to any corporate successors or transferees moving forward. If the company ever decides to return to the prohibited activities, it must notify the relevant authorities in writing beforehand. These conditions ensure that cash redemptions through sweepstakes models remain blocked in the state.

Future operations in the state

Spokesperson Michael Bennet said the operator wants to continue running its platforms in New York by using Gold Coins. These virtual tokens cannot be redeemed for cash or real prizes under the new setup. Players who use the platforms in New York will only participate in free social gaming.
