Rules and licensingSportradar faces antitrust complaints over official live sports data monopoly
Altenar Technologies asks regulators in Europe and Britain to investigate Sportradar for blocking rival access to live data.

Software provider Altenar Technologies has filed complaints with competition regulators in the European Union and the United Kingdom. The company wants authorities to take action against Sportradar for restricting market competition in sports betting technology. The dispute centers on exclusive commercial agreements that give Sportradar the right to collect official data from major sports leagues.
Official data deals under scrutiny
Sportradar holds exclusive rights to gather information and produce live betting odds from the NBA, MLB, NHL, and ATP. Altenar argues this tight control puts rival suppliers at a major disadvantage. Bookmakers across Britain and Europe need access to alternative providers to keep competition alive and encourage innovation in the betting market.
Regulators are currently reviewing the information provided in the dispute. Altenar has also asked the British competition authority to implement temporary measures to grant access to vital betting odds while the review continues. Sportradar rejected the legal moves as unnecessary and stated that it complies with all applicable competition laws.
Growing legal and regulatory pressure
The ongoing dispute follows similar legal action taken in the United States where Altenar filed an antitrust lawsuit. European regulators hold the power to issue heavy financial penalties if a company is found to violate antitrust rules. Sportradar continues to report strong financial growth despite the rising regulatory pressure and previous short seller allegations.
Punters might see changes to how bookmakers source live odds if regulators force open access to official sports data.
