Students across Ontario will see more educational visits about betting safety this year. The Responsible Gambling Council is doubling its campus tour to reach forty publicly funded colleges and universities. This expansion aims to engage young adults where sports wagering is now a regular part of everyday conversations.
Reaching ten thousand students
Sarah McCarthy from the council noted that meeting students directly helps them understand potential risks. The program targets ten thousand in person interactions this academic year. Support from groups like iGaming Ontario makes this wider coverage possible across the province.
Interactive learning with blocks
Trained ambassadors use a giant block stacking game called The Random Tower to teach safety lessons. Blocks feature questions about safe gambling and reminders that sports outcomes rely entirely on chance. When the tower falls, it demonstrates that players cannot control final results.
Promoting self exclusion tools
Ambassadors also introduce students to BetGuard, which is a province wide self exclusion system for online players. Joseph Hillier from iGaming Ontario explained that this tool gives residents a simple way to take a break from regulated betting platforms. Education and exclusion options form a complete approach to safer betting habits.
Understanding the limits of control and utilizing self exclusion tools helps bettors maintain a safer wagering experience.
