The latest Powerball drawing on September 9 saw no players match all the winning numbers, pushing the jackpot to a massive 232 million dollars. The winning numbers were 9, 40, 42, 55, and 65, with the red Powerball 23. Players were competing for a 207 million dollar prize, but the lack of a winner means the jackpot continues to climb. The cash value option has now reached a milestone of 100 million dollars for the next drawing.

Smaller prizes claimed

While the jackpot remained untouched, several players still secured notable payouts. Five ticket holders matched four white numbers plus the Powerball to win tier three prizes. Two of these players won 50,000 dollars each, while the other three doubled their winnings to 100,000 dollars by using the Power Play option. No players managed to match all five white numbers to take home the million dollar second tier prize.

Recent big winners

Previous drawings have been more generous to lottery players over the last few weeks. A ticket holder in Texas recently won a 1 million dollar prize by matching five white numbers. Another player in California hit the same match but took home 185,595 dollars because state law calculates payouts based on ticket sales. In late August, an overseas player in the UK also won 1 million dollars, marking the first major win there since the game launched internationally.

Lottery fans will get another chance to play for the 232 million dollar jackpot this Saturday. The 100 million dollar cash option represents a massive nine figure payout for anyone who beats the odds. Players can purchase tickets up until the draw time to try their luck at the new high prize.
