A brand new organization called the African Responsible Gaming Network aims to reduce gambling harm across the continent. This group brings together various treatment specialists, industry stakeholders, and regional organizations. Founding members include Gamble Aware Nigeria and the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation.
Joining forces for better safety
Safer gambling is not a brand new concept, but previous efforts stayed within single countries. The new network provides a way for different bodies to collaborate and share their experiences. Officials plan to collect data on gambling harm to treat affected individuals and propose new policies.
Rapid growth brings new risks
Lebo Seoheng will serve as the first president of the organization. Seoheng noted that the online betting sector is growing very fast across Africa. This rapid expansion has outpaced current safer gambling solutions, creating an urgent need for better player protection.
Easing pressure on local healthcare
Effective harm reduction will also help reduce the strain on local healthcare systems. Regulators must ensure that gaming environments actively work to prevent behavioral disorders and addiction. Sustainable markets require player protection to sit at the core of daily operations.
Punters can expect stricter safer gambling rules and better support structures as the new network rolls out safety policies.
