Massachusetts sports bettors now face permanent bans from sportsbooks and casinos if they harass athletes online or in person. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission announced a new initiative called Bet on Respect to protect players, officials, and college athletes from toxic abuse linked to betting outcomes. State regulators are teaming up with sports leagues, colleges, and major bookmakers to crack down on abusive behavior.
How the reporting process works
Anyone can now report harassment through a dedicated email address or an online portal set up by the gaming commission. Operators and sports leagues will help gather evidence and pass serious cases to state investigators. Investigators have the power to issue subpoenas to identify perpetrators and launch official exclusion proceedings.
Broad support from major bookmakers
Major betting operators including DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, and Fanatics fully back the new program. These companies already maintain zero tolerance policies for abusive conduct toward anyone involved in sports. Louisiana recently passed a similar law to ban bettors who threaten violence around sporting events, showing a growing national trend.
Bettors in the state must keep their cool or risk losing their betting accounts entirely. Abusive messages sent to players after a lost wager will now trigger investigations that can lock you out of legal sportsbooks for good.
If you harass players over a lost bet in Massachusetts, you risk losing your access to all legal sportsbooks and casinos.
