The Massachusetts Gaming Commission confirmed that state casinos earned 101.9 million dollars in revenue during August. This figure marks an increase from the 95.7 million dollars recorded in July. Encore Boston Harbor led the group with 62.9 million dollars, followed by MGM Springfield and Plainridge Park Casino.
Retail and online betting results
Retail sportsbooks at these three casinos took 4.8 million dollars in wagers. They kept 438,576 dollars as revenue for the month. MGM Springfield struggled to generate significant income from its retail betting operations during this period.
Online operators performed much better with a total handle of 556.5 million dollars. This activity resulted in 46.7 million dollars of revenue for the month. DraftKings led the market with 22.8 million dollars in revenue, while FanDuel followed with 12.9 million dollars.
Tax contributions from gambling
State tax revenue from casinos reached 29.1 million dollars for August. Online sportsbooks paid a combined 9.3 million dollars in taxes to the state. DraftKings alone contributed 4.6 million dollars to that total tax figure.
New athlete protection rules
The state commission started a program called Bet on Respect to protect athletes. This initiative monitors harassment from bettors toward players. Officials may ban people from using legal betting sites if they harass athletes.
The sustained revenue growth and clear tax contributions show that the Massachusetts betting market remains a strong and regulated environment for participants.
