Jumpman Gaming won a major legal battle after the Upper Tribunal ruled the company owes no remote gaming duty on free spins given through its Mega Reel welcome promotion.
This decision cancels tax assessments of roughly thirteen point two million pounds covering the period from July 2018 to December 2022.
Tax ruling details
The judges sided with the operator because of how the law treats free gaming, overturning an earlier decision from the First tier Tribunal.
Legal experts point out that other betting operators facing similar tax bills on free promotional games should now seek refunds or ask for assessments to be withdrawn.
Corporate buyouts and racing
Informa agreed to purchase Clarion Events, the company behind the ICE conference, from Blackstone for an enterprise value of two point two four billion pounds.
Sportradar also agreed to sell its Atrium Sports unit to Teamworks for one hundred and seventy million dollars in cash.
Meanwhile, figures show that bookmaker sponsorship of British horse racing dropped by seventeen percent year on year up to late September.
Operators winning tax appeals on free bets could see improved profit margins to pass onto punters.
