Strict enforcement actions and blocking orders in Chile led a week of dramatic shifts across global betting markets.

Chile experienced the largest rise in the sector during the week from August 31 to September 6 in 2026. The Superintendence of Gaming Casinos submitted a list of 42 unauthorized gambling websites to the Subsecretariat of Telecommunications. Six internet providers were ordered on September 1 to implement domain blocks within two days and report compliance to the Santiago Court of Appeals. The blocked domains included mirror sites for major operators such as Betano, Coolbet, Betsson, Stake, and bet365.
South American football drives growth
Football schedules boosted activity in Paraguay, where markets grew significantly during round nine of the Torneo Clausura. Olimpia defeated Sportivo Trinidense by two goals to one following an 80th minute strike by Hugo Sandoval. That victory moved Olimpia into third place with 16 points. Meanwhile, domestic league fixtures in Peru also generated strong interest after Sporting Cristal won five to zero against Los Chankas and Deportivo Garcilaso beat Atletico Grau four to two.
Authorities target unlicensed operators
Enforcement actions created notable activity in India as part of a high profile money laundering investigation involving Parimatch. On September 2, authorities searched 17 premises across five states, seizing 61 lakh rupees in cash and freezing roughly 37 crore rupees in bank accounts. In Canada, officials in British Columbia declared that sports and entertainment contracts on unlicensed platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket are illegal outside the PlayNow monopoly. The wagering requirement for any associated promotion was not stated.
European markets face new restrictions
Strict regulatory developments caused sharp drops across several European jurisdictions. Cyprus recorded a steep decline after officials recommended banning recipients of welfare payments from using state funds for gambling. Russia saw market drops as its national voluntary gambling self exclusion register came into force. Other nations including Bulgaria, Italy, and Poland also introduced measures blocking access to gambling services, payment processing, advertising, or affiliate networks.
Punters should check local licensing rules and platform availability before placing bets, as unexpected website blocks can restrict access to active accounts.
