Entain is preparing to reduce its workforce by up to four hundred employees. The company runs famous high street betting brands like Ladbrokes and Coral. Tougher operating conditions forced the business to take this step in order to stay competitive.
Industry wide job cuts
Other major betting companies are also shrinking their teams. Bet365 recently announced plans to cut around three hundred and forty jobs. Paddy Power also started a review that could affect another four hundred workers across multiple shops.
Rising tax pressures
These workforce reductions follow significant tax increases across the country. The government raised remote gaming tax from twenty one percent to forty percent. Online sports betting tax also climbed from fifteen percent to twenty five percent.
Warnings from operators
Industry leaders warn that further tax hikes will harm legal businesses. Higher costs might push punters toward the unregulated black market. Companies argue that excessive taxation damages the regulated betting sector rather than helping it.
Recent legal challenges
Aside from staff reductions, the company recently lost a legal battle. The High Court rejected claims that certain odds comparison websites infringed on its trademarks.
Punters might see changes to customer support services as major betting brands cut staff to manage rising operational costs.
