DraftKings received a temporary sports betting licence extension from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. The approval keeps the platform operational through February nineteen. Regulators need extra time to complete background checks on major shareholders and review recent operational questions.
Regulatory review details
State officials are examining whether certain large shareholders completed mandatory suitability submissions properly. Assistant Attorney General Delancey Houston explained that investigators are still reviewing these ownership details. The board stressed that the conditional approval is not a finding of any rule violations.
Artificial intelligence questions
Board members questioned company executives about allegations regarding artificial intelligence use. Reports suggested the technology might target losing bettors, but company president Paul Liberman denied these claims. He stated that DraftKings does not use artificial intelligence for that purpose.
Responsible gambling practices
Chief responsible gambling officer Lori Kalani discussed how the company handles player safety. She noted that artificial intelligence assists with responsible gambling tools rather than targeting specific bettors. The company closed one hundred seventy five accounts in Louisiana last year for safety reasons.
Next steps for the bookmaker
A full licence renewal hearing is scheduled for February eighteen. Chairman Chris Hebert described the temporary extension as a necessary oversight measure. DraftKings will use the coming months to address all remaining questions from state regulators.
Bettors can continue using DraftKings normally while the state reviews compliance matters ahead of the February hearing.
