Crypto.com and Novig filed lawsuits against Missouri after receiving orders to stop offering sports event contracts within the state. The legal actions follow letters sent to several operators demanding they halt operations or seek state approval.
Federal oversight claims
The operator of Crypto.com filed a lawsuit in the Western District of Missouri to argue that federal law gives exclusive jurisdiction to the federal commodity regulator. They claim state rules should not apply to the contracts offered on their platform.
Injunction requests
Novig filed a separate case in the Eastern district of Missouri to seek injunctions against state enforcement. This legal push comes while a similar dispute involving Kalshi moves through an appeals court.
Age limits and warnings
State officials previously warned multiple platforms to cease operations within thirty days. The state also accused Crypto.com of allowing users under the legal betting age of twenty one to trade contracts.
Quiet competitors
Other companies that received warning letters have not filed lawsuits in these federal court districts. Kalshi is currently holding discussions with the state attorney general.
Wagering requirements
The wagering requirement details or specific bonus terms were not stated in the regulatory notices or court filings.
Punters using prediction markets should watch how federal courts rule on state restrictions for sports contracts.
