Pablo Barrios scored inside the first minute to set Atletico Madrid on their way against Manchester United. Diego Simeone praised the midfielder for opening his account for the season, noting that the strike will boost his confidence in front of goal. Punters backing Atletico in the outright markets will be pleased to see the team respond after losing their opening fixture.

Early strike sets the tone

Barrios struck after just forty seven seconds to break the deadlock. The early goal gave the hosts control of the match, despite hitting the woodwork multiple times and having a Johnny Cardoso effort ruled out for handball. The victory reinforces their strong home record in this competition since the start of the twenty twenty three season.

Lookman seals the points

Leny Yoro received a red card for denying a clear scoring opportunity for Jonathan David. Ademola Lookman took advantage just five minutes later to score the second goal and secure the win. Simeone highlighted the forward as a crucial player with great statistics and strong one on one abilities.

Dedication to the captain

Atletico played without their captain Koke following the death of his mother. Barrios dedicated his opening goal to the captain and his family to show support during a difficult day. The squad delivered a vital three points for their supporters and for their absent leader.

What it means for a bet

This win makes Atletico Madrid shorter in the outright winner market for punters looking at European football.
